Mount Moraya Cemetery is a famous character cemetery in Deadwood City, located in Lawrence County of South Dakota. As a regular practice, the flag of America flies over the cemetery 24 hours a day. Celebrated figures of the town like Calamity Jane, Wild Bill Hickok, and other significant characters of the Wild West were buried in this most visited graveyard. Mount Moraya Cemetery’s main attraction is Wild Bill Hickok’s grave site. Wild Bill Hickok was a well known outlaw during his time that was shot in Deadwood. He was killed while playing poker while he has his back facing the door of the bar. Another famous individual buried in this famous cemetery was Calamity Jane. A woman believed to be manlier than any man in the town during her times.

Mount Moraya Cemetery has four different sections. One section was named as Potter's field. This section in the graveyard is a location of graves for unknown people or settlers that were from the Ingelside. Most of the graves are without stones or markers. Another part is the Jewish section. In this area there are many stones all written in Hebrew. A famous member of Jewish Deadwood community, Sol Star was buried here. One site is called The Mass Grave. It was labeled after an event in a lumber mill, a fire tragedy, killing eleven sleeping men one night. Moreover, another section would be for the children. Its label name was dedicated to the many children buried in Mount Moraya who died from the smallpox, typhus and cholera outbreaks but most the Chinese buried in Mount Moraya Cemetery were dug up and sent back to China to be reburied there.
